At last weekends Savannah Speed Classic, I got a chance to say hello to the one and only Hurley Haywood. Still gleaming from a fresh coat of victory champagne, our conversation was fast and loose as Hurley made his way back to the trailer. I was slightly awestruck, and everything was off the cuff. This is all from memory, so Hurley, if I got something wrong, please feel free to correct me.
Just to add a little back story, Brumos has recently announced a full time Porsche GT program in the Grand Am Rolex series. The DP team has been moved to a second car in the Action Express Garage. The New GT program has recruited two new drivers to the Porsche fold in Leh Keen and Andrew Davis.
Bradley Brownell: With the new Brumos GT program, will we see you back in the driver's seat during 2011?
Hurley Haywood: Probably, but only for endurance events.
BB: The 24 hour, and will we see you at the six hours of the glen?
HH: I don't know yet, the program is still new.
BB: How do you feel about losing the DP program drivers? They have been with the program for so long.
HH: Obviously we would love to have Darren and David back, but they deserve to be in top tier cars. We promised the DP guys that we wouldn't rob anything from them to build this new GT program. We are very happy to have Leh and Andrew
BB: How is Brumos' relationship with Action Express?
HH: We are all friends. We won't be sharing much, though, aside from being close to each other in the pit lane. We all have a good working relationship.
BB: Thank you very much for your time.
Haywood (Far Left) sprays a victorious bottle of bubbly.
